Eli Karsanti, a survivor of Egyptian captivity from the Yom Kippur War and a survivor of the October 7 massacre in Be'eri, passed away at the age of 96. Karsanti served as a liaison officer to the UN during the Yom Kippur War, was taken captive, and held in Egypt. Fifty years later, during the October 7 massacre, terrorists broke into his home in Kibbutz Be'eri. His daughter, son-in-law, and ex-wife were murdered. Karsanti himself raised his hands, told the terrorists he was on their side, and offered them water. The terrorists planned to abduct him and his caregiver to Gaza but refrained at the last moment. The two left the burning house and survived. Karsanti lived for many years in Kibbutz Ein HaShlosha, cultivated the judo branch, and trained prominent judokas who won international awards. He will be laid to rest in his kibbutz on Sunday.
