30 people were killed and 47 others injured on Friday in a drone strike that targeted a livestock market in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state in western Sudan, according to a medical source. In response, the Sudanese army announced in a statement on Friday that its air forces carried out concentrated strikes on command centers and gatherings of the Rapid Support Forces in Nyala, asserting that they resulted in the deaths of dozens of its members and the destruction of its command centers. The Rapid Support Forces accused the Sudanese army of bombing the market, while the allied "Ta'asis" coalition said the victims included 17 women and five children. Nyala is a major command center for the Rapid Support Forces and the seat of the parallel administration declared by the "Ta'asis" coalition in areas under its control. These developments come amid escalating military operations in the Darfur and Kordofan regions, where the Sudanese army seeks to target RSF positions and supply lines, while clashes continue between the two sides on several fronts. Since April 2023, Sudan has been at war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions, amid a worsening humanitarian crisis.
