Smuggling attempt from the Palestinian Authority: Tens of thousands of eggs suspected as counterfeit seized on the way to Jerusalem

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security foiled a smuggling attempt of approximately 76,000 eggs from the Palestinian Authority territories to Israel, through the Tunnels Checkpoint. The eggs, brought in without an import permit, bore counterfeit stamps of Israeli marketers and sorting stations. The shipment included eight pallets, and the eggs were destroyed. The suspect will be summoned for questioning. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that bringing eggs from the Authority without supervision is prohibited by law, as their origin and production, storage, and transport conditions cannot be verified. Lack of veterinary supervision and quality control could endanger public health. Moshe Ahrak, director of the Central Unit for Enforcement and Investigations (Pitzuah), stated that the smuggling's goal was to present the consumer with a product as if it had passed inspections, and that during the holiday season, when demand rises, the unit increases its activity to prevent unmonitored food from reaching the public.
