Shraga demands firing of Zini – even before the end of the Qatari funding investigation
Chairman of the Movement for Quality of Government, Eliad Shraga, demanded that the Prime Minister and the Attorney General initiate proceedings to terminate the tenure of Shin Bet chief David Zini, citing concerns of a breach of integrity and unsuitability for the role, against the backdrop of the investigation into Qatari involvement in the elections.
Chairman of the Movement for Quality of Government, Eliad Shraga, demanded this morning (Thursday) from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to initiate proceedings to examine the termination of Shin Bet chief David Zini's tenure. Shraga claims there is concern of a serious breach of integrity and a clear unsuitability for the role, against the backdrop of the affair of Qatari involvement in the elections for the 26th Knesset. The movement's letter details alleged suspicions, including that the Shin Bet held intelligence information on foreign interference before the elections and did not transfer it in real time to the Elections Committee, delayed the transfer of investigation materials to the joint team, and attempted to exercise exceptional powers against elected officials without an evidentiary basis. Shraga was quoted as saying: "The Shin Bet chief is a gatekeeper of democracy, not of the government." The movement plans a demonstration this Saturday evening at Habima Square under the banner "We will not let them steal the elections, Netanyahu and Zini, you are playing with fire."
