Shooting on Yom Kippur - neo-Nazi messages found near synagogue

In Belleville, Canada, neo-Nazi leaflets were distributed near the synagogue where a shooting occurred on the eve of Yom Kippur. B'nai Brith Canada linked them to the Goyim Defense League group. The leaflets contain anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and racist slogans. Earlier, near the Sons of Jacob synagogue, 29-year-old Sean Ward opened fire, wounding a police officer.

In Belleville, Canada, neo-Nazi leaflets were discovered a few days after the Yom Kippur shooting at the Sons of Jacob synagogue. They were distributed Thursday morning throughout the city. The leaflets contain anti-Semitic conspiracy theories and white supremacist slogans. B'nai Brith Canada stated that the materials are linked to the American neo-Nazi group Goyim Defense League (GDL). B'nai Brith Canada Executive Director Simon Wolle called this a cowardly attempt to intimidate the Jewish community. Research Director Richard Robertson urged law enforcement to investigate GDL's activities, noting that hate speech often escalates into action. The shooting itself occurred as community members gathered for Kol Nidre prayers. Police released a video showing 29-year-old Sean Ward, armed with a shotgun, asking an officer: "Are you going to die for the Jews?" Constable Jeff Smith was wounded and faces several surgeries. Ward, who left the Canadian army in 2022, died in the hospital.
