Shin Bet presents intelligence on foreign election funding to Israeli committee

Israel's Shin Bet told the Central Elections Committee on Wednesday that intelligence indicates large sums of money are being funneled from foreign countries into Israel by actors with hidden and hostile interests, potentially involving thousands of people. Committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg said the suspicions are being investigated.

The Shin Bet clarified today (Wednesday), during the Central Elections Committee's discussion on approving the results of the elections for the 26th Knesset, that the intelligence information in its possession allegedly indicates a widespread phenomenon of money flowing into Israel from foreign countries, through parties with hidden and even hostile interests. According to the Shin Bet's statement, these are financing and influence operations on a massive financial scale, involving thousands of people and possibly more. Committee Chairman, Judge Noam Solberg, addressed the suspicions that arose and clarified that they require examination and that the investigation is already underway. These remarks were made against the backdrop of the controversy surrounding the approval of the election results and the demands to examine the suspicions of foreign interference before completing the process.
