Shin Bet chief visited France on Tuesday

Shin Bet chief David Zini made a working visit to France on Tuesday, meeting French security officials to discuss dealing with terrorism and extremism against the backdrop of the riots in France, despite the political and diplomatic crisis between the two countries.

The head of Israel's General Security Service (Shin Bet), David Zini, made a working visit to France on Tuesday, during which he met with his counterparts in the French security services. According to a report by the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation (Kan 11), the visit came against the backdrop of the riots in France, and it confirmed that the visit had been scheduled earlier, before the protests. The visit included a discussion on how to deal with terrorism and Islamic extremism in light of the recent riots. Zini held meetings in Paris with officials of the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and the General Directorate for External Security (DGSE). The report promoted a positive role for the Shin Bet, and noted in the same context that this cooperation between the security services is taking place despite the political and diplomatic crisis in relations between Israel and France, which includes pushing toward imposing sanctions such as a ban on importing goods from the settlements. The Shin Bet declined to confirm or detail the nature of Zini's meetings in France.
