Rabbi Yehoshua Shapira: "The elections are like a call-up order – we are in terrible danger"
Rabbi Yehoshua Shapira calls for full mobilization ahead of the elections, warns of a 'terrible danger' if the left rises to power, and expresses support for the Religious Zionism party led by Bezalel Smotrich.
Rabbi Yehoshua Shapira, head of the Ramat Gan yeshiva and a senior figure among Religious Zionism rabbis, issued a resolute call for full mobilization ahead of the elections. In his remarks, he expressed support for the Religious Zionism list led by Bezalel Smotrich and warned that a left-wing rise to power could pose a clear and immediate danger to the State of Israel. Rabbi Shapira detailed three areas of danger: security – withdrawals that would endanger soldiers; democratic – a 'judicial dictatorship' that would lock the possibility of returning to power; and religious – uprooting Judaism from the public sphere, including closing Channel 14 and the Eli yeshiva. He called for personal activity until the polls close, comparing the mobilization to a 'call-up order (Tzav 8)'.
