The head of the Czech embassy branch in Jerusalem, Klara Shnidrova (30), was killed yesterday after a minibus driver lost control and mounted the sidewalk on Agrippas Street near the Mahane Yehuda market, hitting her and crashing into a shop. Shnidrova was critically injured and later pronounced dead at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Her father served as the Czech ambassador to Israel in the late 1990s, and she had been in Israel as a child and fell in love with the country. Just two days before her death, she was presented at a festive event marking Czech State Day at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, where she spoke about coming full circle. The Czech embassy announced her death and expressed deep sorrow. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, who met her the day before her death, offered condolences. Czech Foreign Ministry spokesman Adam Churgo said it was a painful loss. As a mark of respect, a black flag will be flown at Černín Palace in Prague on Friday and Saturday.
