Sharp surge: 110,000 draft dodgers in the IDF, 80% of them Haredi

The number of draft dodgers in the IDF has surged to 110,000, with 80% of them being Haredi. Enforcement has been frozen except for a few cases, and a planned enforcement operation was canceled due to lack of agreement between the police and the military.

The number of citizens defined as draft dodgers from IDF service has surged to 110,000, as reported this evening on Kan News. At the beginning of 2026, the number stood at about 75,000. According to military estimates, about 80% of the current draft dodgers are from the Haredi community. Despite the unprecedented number and the High Court of Justice ruling on enforcement, enforcement has been frozen except for a few cases. Aside from those detained at Ben Gurion Airport, 14 Haredi and 13 non-Haredi draft dodgers were arrested in random detentions. A planned enforcement operation for this month was canceled due to lack of agreement between the police and the military. The police demanded 300 soldiers for assistance, but the IDF refused, claiming this is not the army's role. The report notes that this is mass delinquency without enforcement, contrary to the High Court ruling, and at a time when the military warns of a severe manpower shortage.
