Reserve soldiers furious: Lecturer demanded they justify a Palestinian petition
Law students at the Ono Academic College, including reserve soldiers, are furious after being required to draft a legal opinion justifying a Palestinian petition against the state, which includes the phrase "terrorist settlers." In a complaint letter to the administration, they accuse the lecturer of political bias and offensive remarks.
A storm is brewing at the Ono Academic College: law students, including reserve soldiers and residents of Judea and Samaria, were required as part of a final assignment in the 'Jurisprudence' course to draft a legal opinion justifying the acceptance of a petition filed by Palestinians against the state. The petition includes the phrase 'terrorist settlers.' The students sent a harsh complaint letter to the institution's administration, alleging political bias, silencing of opinions, and offensive remarks by the lecturer, Prof. Avner Ben Zaken, toward IDF soldiers and government ministers. According to them, the assignment predetermines a conclusion and does not allow for balanced legal analysis. The Ono Academic College responded that the assignment deals with analyzing a petition to the High Court of Justice, and that they asked the lecturer to emphasize that this is a quote from the petitioners.
