A senior official in the government, Amichai Shikli, said in an interview with Radio North 104.5FM that Israel is preparing for the possibility that Iran will carry out an offensive move in the near future, and emphasized that the preparation is primarily defensive. According to him, "we have an unfinished story with Iran" and must prepare for any scenario. Shikli harshly criticized the performance of former National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi, calling him a "very weak national security advisor" who did not challenge the defense establishment's concepts. He also attacked Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Lieberman, whom he called a "violent person" and "unworthy." Referring to Netanyahu's meeting with the US Secretary of Defense, Shikli said that the very fact of the meeting indicates significant preparation, mainly at the defense level, and that an attack may come from the Iranian side. He praised the US President's support for Netanyahu and said the Prime Minister has strengthened against pressures. Shikli dismissed claims of pressure in the Likud following polls, arguing that the polls are intended to mislead public opinion.
