Senior criminal escapes murder conviction for third time: may not spend another day in prison

Moti Hasin, a former associate of crime boss Yitzhak Abargil, reached a plea deal with the prosecution under which the murder charge for Itzik Gafen was dropped. Hasin will be convicted of lesser offenses, including aiding after the fact and conspiracy to commit a crime. The parties will ask the court to sentence him to 10 years in prison, but due to deduction of previous detention days, he may not serve additional time. This is the third time Hasin has not been convicted of murder attributed to him.

Moti Hasin from Rishon LeZion, a former associate of crime boss Yitzhak Abargil, reached a plea deal with the Tel Aviv District Attorney's Office, under which the murder charge for Itzik Gafen was dropped. Hasin will be convicted of lesser offenses: aiding after the fact in the murder of Jordan Azoulay (assisting the murderers to escape and transferring money), illegal possession of weapons (an M16 rifle, a revolver, a silencer, bullets, and TNT explosives), and conspiracy to harm Gafen. The parties will ask the court to sentence him to 10 years in prison, but after deducting his previous detention days, he may not serve additional time. The defense may request that the sentence be served in a medical center. Additionally, compensation of 500,000 NIS to the Gafen family was agreed upon. This is the third time Hasin has been attributed with murder and not convicted.
