A Russian drone struck the third floor of a school in Kyiv this morning (Thursday, October 1, 2026), causing a fire and heavy damage to the building. More than 100 students were at the school during the attack, but all were in a shelter and no casualties were reported. Security camera footage verified by Reuters shows a large fireball at the moment of impact. The school principal, Valentyna Chorna, told local media: "They spare no one. Children are our future, the future of our nation. To destroy a nation, of course they need to destroy the children." Meanwhile, according to reports, the southern bridge over the Dnipro River, one of the city's key transport arteries, was also hit. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that the bridge suffered no significant damage, but the subway line running across it was temporarily suspended. The recent attacks are part of an escalation of Russian aerial assaults on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. According to reports, Russia has recently been using jet-powered drones, which Ukraine struggles to intercept due to a shortage of air defense systems.
