Right or Palestine. But what about security?
Professor Guy Hochman attacks the Likud slogan "Right or Palestine" in an opinion column, arguing it presents a false dichotomy. He notes that the security situation under a right-wing government is dire, with heightened alert for a Hamas attack, and asks why the right promises security in the next term.
Professor Guy Hochman, an expert in behavioral economics, attacks the Likud election slogan "Right or Palestine" in an opinion column on ynet. He argues that the slogan presents a false dichotomy and asks the public to choose without thinking. Hochman notes that the right-wing government has been managing the war in Gaza from day one, yet up-to-date intelligence information has led the security establishment to raise alert levels for an attack, twice. He mentions that the Defense Minister threatened that if Hamas kidnaps one soldier, all of Gaza City will be evacuated, and even Channel 14 revealed earlier this week that Hamas is strengthening. Hochman asks why the right, responsible for the dire security situation, promises more security in the next term. He analyzes the psychology of security promises, which are hard to disprove, and explains how prior beliefs affect the perception of success. According to him, after three years of war under a right-wing government, the threat has not been removed, and we are preparing for possibilities of invasion and kidnapping. Hochman concludes that it is time to stop asking who promises security and start asking if it has been delivered, and suggests giving a chance to less "security-oriented" alternatives.
