Reports on American pressure for Netanyahu's resignation – and the sharp denial
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee strongly denied reports that the Trump administration is promoting a broad unity government in which Netanyahu would serve as prime minister for two years and then resign. Huckabee called the reports "false" and "fake news," emphasizing that the US does not interfere in Israeli elections. The reports were based on a publication in Israel Hayom.
US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee today (Thursday) strongly denied reports that the Trump administration is working to promote a broad unity government in Israel. According to the reports, which were based on a publication in Israel Hayom, the US administration wants a government that would include Likud led by Netanyahu and the party of Gadi Eisenkot, "Yashar." It was also reported that under the proposed framework, Eisenkot's bloc demands a commitment to Netanyahu's resignation within up to two years, the cancellation of the judicial reforms, and the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the events of October 7. The move, according to the reports, was intended to help end the wars in the region and advance peace agreements, primarily an agreement with Saudi Arabia. Huckabee published a denial on X, in which he wrote: "That is absolutely not true. Not at all. The US government is not trying to manipulate the elections in Israel and is not telling the Prime Minister of Israel what to do. Period. Full stop." He added that he hopes the Clash Report site, which published the report, will retract "this fake news story."
