Reporters Without Borders adds Trump's name to 'Enemies of Press Freedom' list
Reporters Without Borders has added the name of US President Donald Trump to its list of 'Enemies of Press Freedom', a first of its kind. The list includes 33 individuals and entities, among them the Chinese, Russian, and Egyptian presidents, as well as the Israeli military and the Chinese Communist Party.
Reporters Without Borders has added the name of US President Donald Trump to its list of 'Enemies of Press Freedom', a first of its kind. The organization accuses Trump of intensifying his actions against media outlets that displease him and obstructing their work since the start of his second presidential term. The new list, compiled by the organization, includes a total of 33 individuals and entities that it believes are deliberately working to undermine independent journalism. The list was published on the occasion of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, observed on November 2. A statement quoted the organization's executive director, Christophe Deloire, as saying that Trump was included because he deliberately uses the powers of his office against media outlets whose coverage he dislikes, noting that the presence of a US president on such a list, alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, represents a turning point. The United States currently ranks 64th out of 180 countries in the global press freedom index. The name of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi was also included for the first time on this negative list, with the organization accusing him of closing independent media outlets and imprisoning journalists. The list also includes the Israeli military, the Chinese Communist Party, along with criminal organizations in Mexico and two US technology companies.
