Rabies in the Golan Heights: Two Infected Jackals Found

The Ministry of Health reported two jackals positive for rabies found near Moshav Ramot in the Golan Heights. Two people exposed to one of the jackals were referred for preventive treatment. The ministry calls on anyone who had contact with an animal in the area to contact the health bureau.

The Ministry of Health updated today (Monday) that two jackals found near Moshav Ramot in the Golan Regional Council tested positive for rabies. One jackal was found on October 1, and the second was found today. Two people exposed to one of the jackals were referred for preventive rabies treatment. The Ministry of Health noted that the epidemiological investigation is ongoing. The ministry calls on anyone who had contact with a stray animal in the area, or whose own animal came into contact with one, between September 17 and October 4, to urgently contact the Kinneret Health Bureau in Tiberias or the nearest health bureau to their place of residence, to assess the need for preventive treatment. The public was also asked to pass the information to hikers and vacationers in the area and nearby communities.
