Quentin Tarantino to publish new novel he wrote about Cliff Booth

Quentin Tarantino is releasing a new novel about the character Cliff Booth from his film "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." The book, "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," will be published on December 8 by HarperCollins, coinciding with the release of a Netflix sequel film directed by David Fincher. The novel's plot is set in 1977.

Director and screenwriter Quentin Tarantino is releasing a new novel focusing on the character of Cliff Booth, the hero of his film "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," as reported by Variety. The book, titled "The Adventures of Cliff Booth," will be published on December 8 by HarperCollins. The release coincides with the Netflix sequel film "The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth," written by Tarantino and directed by David Fincher. While the film will hit theaters in November and the streaming service on December 23, the book will provide an expanded glimpse into the character's world. The novel's plot is set in 1977 in Hollywood, eight years after the events of the original film. According to the published synopsis, the book will describe Booth's life after "the merry 1960s," in his roles as a war hero, stuntman, bartender, and film projectionist, alongside engaging in "secret services" for his friends. This is the second time Tarantino has adapted his cinematic work into a novel format, after doing so with "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" in 2019. Tarantino clarified that he chose not to direct the current film himself to maintain his decision to retire after ten films, and out of a desire for his last film to deal with "unfamiliar territory" rather than a sequel to a previous film. The original film, starring Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, grossed about $400 million at the worldwide box office and won two Academy Awards, including one for Brad Pitt who played Booth. The sequel, produced on a budget of about $200 million, will bring Pitt back into Booth's shoes.
