Qatar renews its support for the marginal guardianship over Jerusalem and religious sites

Qatar called for a coordinated diplomatic and media campaign to expose the violations of the Israeli occupation in occupied East Jerusalem, and announced work on an institutional mechanism to monitor and document violations. This came during the participation of the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in a joint ministerial meeting of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in New York.

Qatar called for a coordinated diplomatic and media campaign to expose the violations of the Israeli occupation in occupied East Jerusalem, and to mobilize international pressure to stop them, announcing work on an institutional mechanism to monitor, document, and present violations before international organizations and world public opinion. This came during the participation of the Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, in the joint ministerial meeting of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The Qatari call comes days after a notable increase in the number of settlers who stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to the Jerusalem Governorate, 1,678 settlers stormed the mosque on September 20 and 21, the highest tally recorded by the governorate during the "Yom Kippur" occasion. Al-Khulaifi stressed rejection of unilateral measures aimed at imposing a new reality in Jerusalem and its holy sites, and renewed Qatar's support for the historical Hashemite guardianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He explained that Qatar is working to activate a sustainable institutional mechanism to monitor and document violations in Jerusalem.
