Prisoner institutions demand halt to execution law and call for international intervention

On the International Day Against the Death Penalty, Palestinian prisoner institutions demanded a halt to the execution law, the immediate release of all prisoners, and international investigations into torture and medical negligence in occupation prisons. They reported the deaths of 92 prisoners since October 2023 and criticized the Israeli Knesset's approval of a law imposing the death penalty on Palestinians for intentional murder, with reduced legal requirements.

On the International Day Against the Death Penalty, Palestinian prisoner institutions issued a statement demanding a halt to the execution law, the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners, and independent international investigations into torture, medical negligence, and killings in Israeli occupation prisons. The institutions affirmed that prisoners are experiencing the harshest stages of liquidation and systematic killing since the beginning of the genocide crime, noting that the death penalty has become part of daily practices through slow killing, direct liquidation, torture, and systematic starvation. They reported the deaths of at least 92 prisoners since October 2023, considering this the bloodiest period in the history of the prisoner movement. The institutions criticized the Israeli Knesset's approval on March 30, 2026, of a law imposing the death penalty on Palestinians who intentionally cause the death of Israelis, reducing the legal requirements from unanimity to a simple majority. They also noted a separate law approved on May 11, 2026, for trying Gaza detainees described as "elite prisoners" before a special military court. The institutions called for urgent international action beyond verbal condemnation to clear legal and political measures.
