The Haifa District Court reduced the sentence of Nasser Aslan, who posed as the driver in a fatal car accident that killed Captain Amit Itah in February 2022. Aslan was convicted of providing false information and obstructing legal proceedings after pretending to be the driver to cover for his brother, Rafa Aslan, who was driving the vehicle. The Magistrate's Court sentenced him to 12 months in prison, but the district court reduced the sentence to eight months, partially accepting defense arguments that the Magistrate's Court considered aggravating circumstances not included in the indictment. The judges rejected the request for community service and emphasized the need for a deterrent punishment. Tami Itah, the officer's mother, expressed deep disappointment and said, "The court today said that lying is okay. Crime pays."
