The Pentagon has confirmed that another aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, is on its way to the Middle East, according to two American officials who spoke with Fox News. Its arrival will place three American aircraft carriers simultaneously in the region: it will join the USS George H.W. Bush and the USS George Washington. The move will add approximately 10,000 sailors and Marines to the force posture, with the aircraft carrier departing San Diego on Sunday and the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit deploying the following day. Meanwhile, Qatar and Pakistan have offered Iran and the US a new compromise, under which Qatar would release at least six billion dollars to Iran in exchange for a return to negotiations and the possibility of a visit by the International Atomic Energy Agency to nuclear facilities. The Pakistani army chief announced that Iran views the proposal positively, but an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said the talks focused mainly on bilateral relations.
