Palestine at the Heart of British Politics: A Lecture at 'Al-Sakakini' on the Transformations After the War of Genocide

A lecture at the Khalil Al-Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah by journalist Rabie Eid on Britain's political and social transformations three years after the war of genocide on Gaza, and the evolution of the solidarity movement from a seasonal phenomenon to a structural one that changed the party map.

The Khalil Al-Sakakini Cultural Center in Ramallah organized a lecture presented by Palestinian journalist and researcher based in London, Rabie Eid, director of social media platforms at 'The New Arab' website, which addressed the profound political and social transformations that Britain has undergone over three years of the ongoing genocidal war against the Gaza Strip, and their direct repercussions on the structure of the domestic scene there. The seminar was attended by a number of those interested in following the dimensions of international solidarity with Palestine; where Eid reviewed how the solidarity movement in the United Kingdom has transcended its seasonal nature to become a structural political phenomenon that has changed the traditional dual-party system and reshaped the party map. He also touched on the diversity of grassroots movement tools; starting from million-strong national marches, university movements, and surprise sit-ins, to direct action strategies, dismantling military supply chains, and targeting arms factories, along with the union momentum led by labor unions representing millions of citizens. Eid, drawing on his experience in field journalistic coverage while working as a correspondent for 'Al-Araby Al-Jadeed' newspaper and website in London, deconstructed the contradiction between the official British position and attempts at criminalization and activation of anti-terrorism laws, and the rising popular tide rejecting colonial complicity. The lecture also highlighted opinion polls that documented the shift in public mood and the rejection of arms exports, as well as the electoral results that shook the leadership of the two traditional parties.
