Brazilian police arrested Jorlan Lopes da Silva, suspected of involvement in 16 murders committed since his release from prison in May. Lopes da Silva was arrested on Sunday, September 13, in the city of Mulungu, following a search operation that lasted approximately 48 hours. During his escape attempt, he wore a dress, donned a wig, and carried a two-year-old child who is not a relative, apparently in an attempt to disguise his identity and flee the country. Lopes da Silva was released from prison at the end of May after serving about five years in prison. Since then, according to police, he is suspected of involvement in a long series of murders in the Vale do Mamanguape region. Among other things, he is suspected of involvement in a double murder of two merchants in the city of Rio Tinto on August 1, along with four other suspects. During his interrogation, he claimed to have killed around 80 people since the age of 13. The investigation is ongoing.
