Amid fears of another war with Israel and the US, voices in Iran calling for the development of nuclear weapons and a change to Khamenei's doctrine are growing. Religious figures and senior officials are pressuring the leadership to renege on its commitment not to develop nuclear weapons, in order to restore deterrence. The discussion has reached the top leadership, while Tehran is conducting diplomatic efforts mediated by Qatar to prevent renewed war. National Security Advisor Mohsen Rezaei confirmed in an interview with state television that the leadership is discussing this, but no new decision has been made yet. Experts assess that the failure of deterrence and the words of US President Donald Trump are strengthening support for the bomb. On the other hand, reformist figures such as President Masoud Pezeshkian and former President Hassan Rouhani continue to support a nuclear doctrine for peaceful purposes.
