Nurse at Maccabi identified warning signs of a heart event in a man accompanying his wife

A 56-year-old man who accompanied his wife to a Maccabi clinic in Ma'alot was identified by nurse George Daoud as suffering from sweating and chest pain. An ECG raised suspicion of an acute cardiac event, and he was evacuated to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, where a blockage was found in an artery and he underwent emergency catheterization. The nurse and the doctor stress the importance of rapid identification.

A 56-year-old man who arrived at a Maccabi clinic in Ma'alot only to accompany his wife to a routine ECG found himself hospitalized after a nurse noticed warning signs of a heart event. Nurse George Daoud noticed the man was sweating, approached to ask how he was feeling, and discovered he was also suffering from chest pain. Daoud performed an immediate ECG, which raised suspicion of an acute cardiac event. He summoned Dr. Monchak Komarska, a pediatrics specialist who was present at the clinic, and a Magen David Adom team. The patient received oxygen and aspirin, was urgently evacuated to the Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya, and underwent cardiac catheterization that same evening, during which a blockage was found in an artery and a stent was inserted. Daoud spoke of an immense sense of satisfaction and of the importance of recognizing warning signs. Dr. Komarska stressed that every minute is critical when a cardiac event is suspected, and that without rapid treatment the event could lead to arrhythmias and even death.
