North Korea conducted a dangerous missile test: one critical thing remains unclear

North Korea launched a medium-range ballistic missile in a military test. Kim Yo-jong mocked South Korea and Japan for failing to track the missile's trajectory. Kim Jong-un stated that developing nuclear deterrence is essential for national security. The launch occurs amid escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula following a mine explosion in the demilitarized zone.

North Korea launched a medium-range ballistic missile as part of a military test, according to state media reports. Kim Yo-jong, the leader's sister and a senior Workers' Party official, mocked South Korea and Japan, claiming they failed to track the weapon's flight path, which she described as a 'wave-like trajectory' revealing limitations in their tracking and interception capabilities. Separately, on Friday, Kim Yo-jong issued a statement rejecting Seoul's demand for an apology over a mine explosion in the demilitarized zone last month that wounded South Korean soldiers, calling the accusations baseless. Kim Jong-un stated that Pyongyang must continue its efforts to make its enemies recognize the credibility and lethality of its strategic offensive weapons, affirming that developing nuclear deterrence remains vital to national security. Since the beginning of the year, North Korea has conducted over ten missile tests.
