According to him, Iran is taking hits from the US but continues to act aggressively, and if it survives the current campaign, it will emerge as the strongest power in the region, more dangerous than Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan. Ashkenazi sharply criticizes the Israeli political system: he claims that the finance minister, due to political constraints, may cut off funding to the IDF and engage in a game of arm wrestling, and that the opposition, which should serve as a critical force, is busy with internal wars like "a bunch of irresponsible children." He states that Israel can offer Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan a wide range of ways and means to deal with the Houthis and Iranians, but it must act with less arrogance and conceit and with organized work plans, to replace, even in small part, US activity in the region.
