The launch of former minister Yizhar Shai's book "Crazy Diamond" at the ANU Museum in Tel Aviv, attended by family members, comrades in arms, bereaved families, public figures, and journalists. The book tells the story of his son, Staff Sergeant Yaron Uri (Noni) Shai, a Nahal reconnaissance fighter who fell in the battle for Kerem Shalom on October 7, and expands to the story of his unit comrades.
The launch of former minister Yizhar Shai's book "Crazy Diamond" took place last Friday at the ANU Museum in Tel Aviv. The event was attended by family members, comrades in arms, families who lost their loved ones in the battles of October 7, public figures, politicians, and journalists. The book presents the story of his son, Staff Sergeant Yaron Uri (Noni) Shai, a Nahal reconnaissance fighter who fell in the battle for Kerem Shalom on October 7. The launch also gave a place of honor to the story of his unit comrades, the fighters who fought alongside him and the families behind them. Dovi Eichenwald, publisher of Yedioth Books, was quoted saying that Yizhar could have written a book only about his son, but chose to expand and tell about Ido Shani, Roey Chappel, Amit Most, Nahal reconnaissance fighters, medics, Air Force and Unit 669 personnel, female observers, Kerem Shalom personnel, the families who lost and the families who were saved. Thus, the personal memory becomes a mosaic of an entire generation.
