Maradona's son's lawyer demands harsher sentences for main defendants
Lawyer for Diego Fernando Maradona, son of the Argentine legend, demanded prison sentences of up to 16 years for doctor Leopoldo Luque and medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, and 14 years for psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, in the trial over Maradona's death in 2020. These demands exceed the prosecution's requests for lesser sentences.
Mario Baudry, lawyer for Diego Fernando Maradona (13 years old), the youngest son of Argentine legend Diego Armando Maradona from his wife Verónica Ojeda, demanded harsher prison sentences than those requested by the prosecution against the three main defendants in the trial over Maradona's death in 2020. In a court session in San Isidro, north of the capital Buenos Aires, Baudry demanded 16-year prison sentences for trusted doctor Leopoldo Luque and medical coordinator Nancy Forlini, and 14 years for psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, with a ban from practicing their profession for at least 10 years. These demands exceed the prosecution's requests for 12, 10, and 8 years respectively. Baudry also demanded a 12-year sentence for psychologist and addiction specialist Carlos Díaz, while the prosecution sought only 5 years. The court quoted Baudry as saying that Luque knew from the first moment that Maradona would die due to the treatment he was receiving but did nothing. The session highlighted differing estimates from lawyers, indicating that responsibility remains unclear despite 6 months having passed since the trial began.
