According to a report in the Cypriot media, Maccabi Tel Aviv is considering moving its Euroleague home games to Cyprus. The report claims that the yellows approached parties in the country and expressed a desire to host on the neighboring island, and that the request was received positively with a high likelihood that the move will materialize. This comes after in the last three seasons the team hosted its European games in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, due to the security situation in Israel. Against this backdrop, Maccabi Tel Aviv recently held two preseason games in Cyprus against Olympiacos and Aris Thessaloniki. The Cypriot media alleged that ties between the sides strengthened around the tournament, and that club chairman Shimon Mizrahi even spoke on the matter with the President of Cyprus. However, the club stated that the team does not respond to various reports being published, and that it will continue to act so that Euroleague games return to Israel soon. Meanwhile, the club updated last week that Euroleague CEO Chess Buanoy is expected to arrive in Israel in the coming two weeks to assess the situation, following conversations he held with Maccabi Tel Aviv officials.
