Lieberman signals compromise on conscription law to form government

Yisrael Beiteinu chairman Avigdor Lieberman announced willingness to compromise on the conscription law to enable formation of a government without Benjamin Netanyahu, ruling out reliance on Arab parties.

Yisrael Beiteinu chairman MK Avigdor Liberman wrote this morning (Friday) that there is no choice but to be flexible and compromise on a range of issues in order to form a government – also on the conscription law. According to him, "We must prevent the destruction of a Third Temple." Liberman reiterated his opposition to a government relying on the abstention of the Joint List and Ra'am, and made clear that Yisrael Beiteinu will oppose any such government. He explained the shift in his position by citing earlier warnings that proved accurate, including the warning about the Nukhba invasion in October 2023. Liberman also said he has not spoken with anyone about a rotation, and that this mechanism is harmful. He called for forming a coalition of 61 Knesset members, which he said could later add three or four MKs from Likud.
