"It's a long run. And all the way, my thoughts are with Daniel"

David Levy, a 58-year-old resident of Kiryat Ata, will participate in the Chicago Marathon on October 11 in memory of his son Daniel Levy, a Nahal soldier who fell in Gaza in May 2024, and in memory of three additional relatives who fell in the war. Levy speaks about returning to running after the loss, the heavy longing, and the strength he found in every step.

David Levy, a 58-year-old resident of Kiryat Ata, will participate on October 11 in the Chicago Marathon, one of the six major marathons in the world, as part of a team from the "Mishpacha Achat" organization. He will run in memory of his son Daniel Levy, a soldier in the 931st Battalion of the Nahal Brigade, who fell at the age of 19 in a battle in the Zaytun neighborhood of Gaza on May 10, 2024. Levy describes Daniel as a shy and loving child, a fan of Hapoel Tel Aviv, who wanted to serve in a meaningful role. Alongside Daniel, the family also lost Yedidia Azugi, Levy's nephew, who fell about two and a half weeks later, and Yosef Dasa, Daniel's close friend who fell in the same incident. The family commemorates Daniel through "Kikar HaRe'ut" in Kiryat Motzkin, a Torah scroll, and a milk tanker in his name. Levy describes a heavy longing that only grows, and running as a source of strength and motivation, feeling Daniel in every step.
