Dozens of residents from the town of Zemer in the Triangle region protested on Friday at the southern Marj roundabout against the garbage dump and environmental pollution from ongoing waste fires there for over two years. The protest was called by the Zemer local council, opposing the dump located illegally near the village, where waste is collected from various countries for profit and material gain. Protesters raised signs demanding solutions and the dump's removal, with some reading: "Our right is to breathe clean air," "We get cancer and shortness of breath because of the dump," "The dump means cancer," "Our homes are for living and comfort, not for suffocation." Hamed al-Qaisi told Arab48 that the suffering from this dump has been ongoing for years, with smoke columns and odors rising daily, believing the waste comes from hospitals, highlighting its danger. Naseem Omar said their town was known for its cleanliness, but the dump turned their lives into hell due to continuous waste burning, noting the area is not approved as a dump and only serves material interests. The child Larin Omar said that when heading to the buses taking them to school, they cannot breathe.
