An Israeli named Y., living in the Netherlands, attempted to register for a Dutch language course. During the enrollment interview, the interviewer demanded that he declare that a "genocide" is taking place in Gaza as a condition for acceptance. Y. refused, and recounted that his uncle was murdered on October 7, adding that if there were war crimes, they should be investigated and those responsible prosecuted, but in his view there was no genocide and it had not been proven. The interviewer rejected his request, determining that he did not have the "correct political opinion," but clarified that "it's not personal." The pro-Israeli advocacy organization CIDI filed a complaint with the Dutch human rights organization (Human rights in the Netherlands), arguing that this is a "shocking example" of the reality faced by Israelis and Jews in the Netherlands. The conversation was recorded.
