Israeli released from prison in Kurdistan after 11 years lands in Israel

Ben Hassin, an Israeli citizen, a Canadian Jew with Israeli citizenship of Kurdish origin, was released from prison in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq after 11 years of imprisonment and landed this morning at Ben Gurion Airport. His release was made possible after funds were raised for a "sulha" (reconciliation) with the victim's family, who removed the death sentence.

Hassin landed this morning (Friday) at Ben Gurion Airport. His imprisonment stemmed from his involvement in a conflict that led to the death of a local man. His release was made possible after funds were raised last year to conduct a "sulha" (reconciliation) with the victim's family, a move that led to the removal of the death sentence that had been imposed on him. The release efforts were carried out through international lawyer Alan (Abraham) Lavi, together with a group of businessmen from the Haredi community in the United States.
