Israel is changing car import rules: who will be affected first
The Israeli Ministry of Transport is changing car import rules, reducing the ability to import vehicles in "small batches." The benefit that stimulated the electric vehicle market is no longer needed by most Chinese brands. The new regulations take effect in 2027.
The Israeli Ministry of Transport is changing car import rules, reducing the ability to import vehicles in "small batches." This measure was introduced to stimulate the electric vehicle market, but now most electric vehicles, especially Chinese ones, no longer need the small-series permit. According to the economic publication "Calcalist," the ministry has sent relevant instructions to car importers. For the past eight years, the benefit was used by importers of Chinese cars, bringing in up to 400 vehicles per year. Now, small-series imports will mainly be required for non-upgraded models or models with few airbags, such as the BAIC EU5, which is sold at the "Rami Levy" chain. Commercial electric vehicles still need the benefits. Head of the Traffic Management Authority Adi Ben-Lish noted an increase in the number of models with full European approval among passenger cars, but not in the commercial category. Due to the ministry's decision, such cars will disappear from dealerships if manufacturers do not bring them into compliance with the full European standard.
