A serious safety incident occurred today (Wednesday) during the afternoon at the "Ofer" special education school in Haifa, when a heavy concrete block fell from a nearby construction site of the "Shatit" company, entered the school grounds, and hit the dining hall area. Fortunately, no one was injured as no students were present. According to one initial assessment, during work to lift a concrete pit, the pit detached, rolled down the slope, and penetrated the school compound. The exact circumstances are under investigation. Engineering and safety officials from the Haifa Municipality arrived at the scene and subsequently issued a five-day work stoppage order to the company. Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav said: "This is a very serious incident that only by a miracle did not end in disaster." The municipality's CEO, David Luria, instructed all professional bodies to conduct a thorough investigation of the incident and the site's safety arrangements.
