Thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters burned Israeli and US flags yesterday (Friday) during a student demonstration in Rome, under the banner "A Day Without Meloni." The protest, organized by students in Italy, called for budget investment in education instead of military spending and for a boycott of Israel. According to the organizers, about 20,000 protesters participated. The demonstrators waved Palestinian flags, set trash bins on fire, and lit fireworks, marching from the Colosseum area to the Ministry of Education. They threatened a general strike on October 30. Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara called the protests "political hooliganism," and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini attacked, saying, "These are not students, they are criminals." Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni did not respond. Similar protests also took place in Turin, Verona, Genoa, Venice, Padua, Treviso, and Cagliari.
