In front of the cameras: Politician goes to help in the field - and gets headbutted by a political activist

A senior Argentine congressman, Federico Pelli, was attacked with a headbutt to the face while trying to distribute mattresses to flood victims in northern Argentina. The attacker, a rival political activist and local government employee, was arrested and sentenced to three years of probation.

A senior Argentine congressman, Federico Pelli from President Javier Milei's party, was violently attacked while trying to distribute humanitarian aid to flood victims in northern Argentina. Pelli was leading a truck loaded with mattresses and supplies to a disaster-stricken town, but at the entrance to the settlement, a large man blocked his path and refused to let the convoy pass. After a brief verbal confrontation, the blocker headbutted Pelli forcefully in the face, causing a severe nasal fracture and head injury. Congresswoman Soledad Molinuovo, who witnessed the incident, said she thought the attacker had killed Pelli on the spot. Pelli was taken to a hospital, underwent nasal surgery, and filed a police complaint. The attacker, who turned out to be a political activist from the rival camp and a local government employee, was arrested immediately after the footage was circulated on social media, including by the President of Argentina who condemned the act. The investigation determined that the attacker acted on his own accord out of local political rivalry. He confessed to the act, apologized, and was sentenced to three years of probation, a restraining order from Pelli, a ban on carrying weapons and drinking alcohol, and mandatory psychological treatment for anger management.
