The Houthi rebels in Yemen continue their conquest campaign, now targeting the provinces of Taiz and Marib as their next objectives. According to a CNN report, capturing the mountainous Taiz province and the oil- and gas-rich Marib province is intended to cut off supply lines for the legitimate Yemeni government forces, which are backed by Saudi Arabia. Yemeni analyst Mohammed al-Basha warned that the fall of these strongholds would be "game over" for government forces. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia has intensified airstrikes against the Houthis, with the rebel military spokesman claiming 157 strikes in a single day. However, the New York Times reported that US President Donald Trump ordered the military to prepare an attack on Yemen but canceled it at the last moment, about three hours before execution, amid a dispute within the US military leadership. The Houthis, backed by Iran, aim to take over all of Yemen and already control much of the western part of the country, including the capital Sanaa.
