IDF in SMS to reservists: "The operation begins in 4 days"
The IDF sent an SMS message to reservists stating: "The operation begins in 4 days." The message caused panic, but in fact it refers to a logistics and technology directorate operation to return military equipment and gear without requiring identification or legal proceedings, to be held from November 1-12 at 63 collection points.
Thousands of reservists across the country received a terse text message from the IDF Spokesperson's Unit that opened with the words "The operation begins in 4 days!" In a tense period of fighting on multiple fronts, the message sparked panic and fears of an urgent combat order or a cyberattack. An inquiry with security officials revealed that it is an operation by the Logistics and Technology Directorate to return weapons, ammunition, and military equipment that remained in the possession of civilians, regular soldiers, and reservists. The operation will last 12 days, from November 1-12, and will include 63 collection points across the country. The return will be allowed without requiring identification or initiating criminal or disciplinary proceedings.
