IDF headstones to include abduction note if soldier was kidnapped, Knesset announces

The Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee approved an amendment to Military Cemeteries Regulations, allowing headstones of IDF soldiers who were kidnapped prior to death to include the abduction detail and its date. The change, requested by bereaved families, was approved ahead of the annual October 7 memorial service.

The Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, chaired by MK Boaz Bismuth, approved an amendment to the Military Cemeteries Regulations that permits headstones of IDF soldiers who were kidnapped prior to their death to include a note of the abduction and its date. The change was requested by bereaved families whose loved ones were abducted during their service and killed in captivity. Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized the urgency of approving the new regulations ahead of the annual memorial service marking the events of October 7. The announcement follows a Defense Ministry report that 1,318 members of Israel's security forces have been killed across all conflict fronts since October 7, 2023, including IDF soldiers, police, Shin Bet, and Fire and Rescue personnel.
