IAEA Urgently Calls on Iran: "Allow Us to Enter Nuclear Facilities"
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called on Iran at the UN Security Council to allow inspectors to enter its nuclear facilities, after the agency cannot verify the status of enriched uranium in the country, estimated at about 440 kilograms.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi urgently called on Iran to resume diplomatic cooperation and allow international inspectors to return to its nuclear facilities. In a special briefing to the UN Security Council in New York, Grossi noted that since inspectors were evacuated due to military attacks, the agency has been unable to verify the status of declared nuclear materials—including a stockpile of about 440 kilograms of highly enriched uranium. Grossi clarified that remote monitoring is no substitute for on-site inspections needed to determine the condition of facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. He emphasized that Iran's legal obligations under safeguard agreements and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty cannot be unilaterally conditioned, and called on Tehran to adopt gradual technical steps—based on the 2025 "Cairo Agreement" and regional mediation—to build trust and pave the way for a broad political deal. The article also notes that Iran refuses to discuss its nuclear program before the United States meets its demands to end the war.
