Two northern Israel residents indicted for extorting family, firing at wrong home
An indictment was filed Thursday against two northern Israel residents for extorting a family from Beit She'an over a debt. After payments stopped, a shooter on an electric scooter fired at what he thought was the family's home but mistakenly hit a neighbor's house.
An indictment was filed today (Thursday) against two northern residents for extorting a family from Beit She'an over a financial debt, and for shooting at their neighbors' house after the family stopped paying. The incident began on September 30, 2026, when a shooting at a residential building in Beit She'an was reported with no casualties. The investigation revealed that for months, the family had faced severe threats from a 29-year-old defendant from Kfar Chitim, who sent messages such as: "I'm on my way to you now. You'll see what a mess there will be today, son of a bitch. I want all the money today." The family transferred money several times until they could no longer meet the payments. Then the first defendant turned to another defendant, a 42-year-old resident of Beit She'an, who served as an "executive arm" and threatened the family to settle the debt. After the threats failed, the additional defendant, along with another suspect, carried out the shooting, which accidentally hit the neighbors' house. Yesterday, the Northern District Attorney's Office filed an indictment and a request for remand until the end of proceedings on charges of extortion by threats, carrying a weapon, incitement to shooting, shooting in a residential area, and obstruction of justice.
