The Lebanese army seized a truck loaded with hundreds of kilograms of explosives in the Deir al-Bidar area of eastern Lebanon, on its way to Beirut. According to reports in the Arab and Lebanese media, two operatives identified with Hezbollah were arrested on suspicion of involvement in transporting the cargo. Lebanese media, especially the anti-Hezbollah MTV channel, raised the hypothesis that the organization planned to assassinate a senior political figure. Lebanon's Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, addressed the incident in a post on X, praised the security forces and promised a comprehensive investigation that would expose all those involved and the targets. On the other hand, the Hezbollah-affiliated newspaper Al-Akhbar claimed that the incident is being exploited politically and in the media against the organization, and that the official discourse has gone beyond the bounds of the investigation into an intra-Lebanese confrontation over the weapons issue. Hezbollah's member of the Lebanese parliament, Ibrahim Moussawi, defended the organization and claimed it has nothing to be ashamed of, and that it was never involved in a civil war or in political assassinations. Meanwhile, the Lebanese army reported another seizure of about 200 kg of explosives on the Syrian border.
