The Hebrew University has announced an unprecedented $250 million donation from billionaire John Paulson, the largest gift the university has received since its founding. Paulson cited the quality of research and its output relative to costs, as well as international solidarity with Israel, as reasons for the donation. The gift will be divided among four areas: establishing a new faculty of engineering, medicine and biomedical research, trauma and post-trauma research, and the creation of a think tank. In recognition, the historic Mount Scopus campus will be named after the donors. University President Prof. Tamir Shefer welcomed the donation. Paulson is the founder of hedge fund Paulson & Co., with an estimated net worth of $11.2 billion.
