An indictment was filed against a 25-year-old illegal resident who hit a police officer during a drunk driving check on Highway 1 and fled. After a chase, he tried to disguise his car by sanding the paint and using fake license plates, but was located at the cemetery in Lod and arrested.

An indictment was filed against a 25-year-old illegal resident, who never obtained a driver's license, after he hit a police officer during a drunk driving check on Highway 1 and fled. The incident occurred during an enforcement operation by national traffic police officers at the Sha'ar Hagai junction. The officers stopped the vehicle for a routine check on suspicion of drunk driving, but the driver suddenly accelerated, hit the officer and a police car, and fled. The officer sustained injuries to his hands and knees and was taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. The suspect later attempted to cover his tracks by sanding the car's paint and preparing it for repainting, and installed fake license plates. The vehicle was located in the Ramallah area and seized. Detectives from the Central Unit of the Traffic Division located the suspect at the cemetery in Lod, while he was driving another person who was also in Israel illegally. The indictment charges him with offenses including leaving the scene after causing injury, reckless driving, forging vehicle identification marks, illegal entry into Israel, and transporting an illegal resident. A request was filed for his detention until the end of proceedings.
