His sister was murdered on October 7 - the university demands he prove trauma

Tomer Cohen Guri, whose twin sister Libby was murdered in the October 7 massacre, received a notice from Ben-Gurion University that the academic accommodations granted to him as a bereaved brother would end. To continue receiving them, he will be required to present a psychiatric evaluation. His mother is furious at the demand.

Three years after the murder of his twin sister Libby Cohen Guri in the October 7 massacre, Tomer Cohen Guri, a student at Ben-Gurion University, received a notice that the academic accommodations granted to him as a bereaved brother are about to end. The accommodations include extra time on exams. To continue receiving them, Tomer is required to present a psychiatric evaluation attesting to his mental state. His mother, Shelly, published a scathing post in which she attacked the demand, writing that her son heard his sister in her final moments and struggles with concentration difficulties, sleep disturbances, and incessant thoughts. She emphasized that her son is an excellent student who succeeds in his studies despite the loss, and that he will not bring a certificate of mental coping. The university has not yet responded.
